Race day Sept. 15th In review

P1010200_3 Well the day started off rainy, but became beautiful by the end. I was not at the race on Saturday so I cannot report too much. I do know that Adam won the open race for his second win this year. Tim won the Monster Truck race for his first win this year. Thank you to all the volunteers and racers this weekend. We will be racing again this weekend Sat the 22nd of Sept. Registration will start at 8am and end at 11am. Please be on time or early, races will start at noon, we do not plan to wait. Also we will have Burgers, Dogs, chips, soda, and water for sale. See you then!!

Glow Plug

Replacing an old glow plug can prevent the element from breaking off and working its way into the engine, which may damage the engine and shorten its racing life. You don't want a glow plug to fall during a race.

Air Filter

A new air filter will increase better fuel mileage, extend the life of you engine, insure constant tune, and increase overall power of the engine. Any dirt that gets into the engine may score the sleeve, damage the bearings, reduce performance or cause the engine to seize.

"Spend Now, Save Later" #1

Clutch Bearings

Replace the bearings to increase the useful life of your clutch. If the bearings blow out, you could ruin the clutch, fuel tank, (if the clutch bell hits the tank) crankshaft, clutch bell, and the diff. gear. Basically the best remedy for this is check your clutch bearings after every run. If you need new bearings visit Acer Bearings. Or get in contact with the RC dept at:Time Machine Hobbies.

New Series "Spend Now, Save Later"

Hey guys today I am going to start a new three part series called "Spend Now Save Later."

The reason I chose this three part series is because; high performance nitro cars in general, and off road cars in particular, consume parts more quickly than other RC vehicles. You must replace the following inexpensive items whenever thier condition is in doubt to avoid more expensive fixes later. I hope you guys enjoy this series, and again I give full credit to Adam Drake and the editors of RC Car Action magazine.

Labor Day Weekend Event Race Results

Picture_131_2Well, we had an extremely successful weekend. We ran three classes of racing. We started off with Monster Truck, then Open, and finally Truggy/ Buggy. We had hamburgers, Hot dogs, Soda, and lots of fun. During the main events there appeared to be at least 100 people in attendance. We would like to thank Joe for cooking, Carol for her cashier work, and photography. Also all of our corner marshals, and track maintenance crew. Our weekend would have been far from successful if not for you guys.

We started off the day with qualifying. Our first main event was the Monster truck race. John C. took the win again for the second time this season in the Monster truck main wielding his Traxxas Revo.

Our second main was the Open. Gary C. took a very close win with his new Jammin CRT. This was Gary's 2nd open win, but 3rd win of the season.

Our third main was the Truggy/Buggy race. The win was taken by Adam W. Adam is brand new to the club, He was running his Ofna Buggy.

Congrats, to all who participated. Hope to see everyone next time. The next race will be scheduled for Sept 15.

Labor Day Weekend Event

Hey guys we are out a cook. If anyone who is not racing on Sat. would like to cook Hamburger and Hotdogs, as a club benifit let me know. It will only be for 2 hrs. Non-club members are also welcome to volunteer.

STEP 7: CLEAN ENGINE WITH SIMPLE GREEN

With the engine properly sealed with caps and the clutch off the crank shaft, lightly spray the engine with Simple Green. Scrub the engine with a brush to remove any baked on grime and dirt. Wipe down engine and blow t off again with air compressor.

STEP 8: RESEAL THE CARB

Run a thin bead of Racers Choice Air Seal around the base of the carb to make sure it is sealed. Use a paper clip to smear the sealer around the base of the carb. The silicone based solution shrinks into the cracks when it dries to prevent leaks. This stuff work great and will last for a race season or two.

STEP 9: REPLACE OR CLEAN AIR FILTER

Use foam filter cleaner from your local motorcycle shop to clean the filter thoroughly. Let the filter dry before you reapply filter oil. While the filter dries spray out the boot with nitro cleaner. When you re-assemble the filter, smear thick grease on both ends of the filter to seal it completely against plastic end caps.

STEP 10: CHECK THE GLOW PLUG

Remove the glow plug inspect it for broken or damaged element. Replace the plug if it is distorted, compressed, or broken. Check for oil corrosion at the top of the plug. When in doubt replace the plug.

STEP 11: APPLY AFTER RUN OIL

When the glow plug is removed apply 5 drops of after run fluid through the glow plug opening. Turn flywheel 10 times to work oil into piston and sleeve.

STEP 12: REINSTALL THE ENGINE

Be sure to reapply thread-lock on the top screws that go through the engines mounting tabs. DO NOT use thread lock on the underside screws, make sure they are extremely tight and check them often.

STEP 13: RECHECK THROTTLE AND BRAKE LINKAGES

Make sure the carburetor and break systems have full throw and operate smoothly. The idle, dead band and brake feel may be off after you removed your engine for maintenance, so do a beach test with your radio to check your throttle/brake settings.

STEP 4: CAP OFF FUEL INLETS, CARB AND EXHAUST

Use an extra antenna cap to seal off the carb’s fuel inlet, and cover the carb opening and exhaust port with vinyl caps. Some engines include these; if your did’nt, visit visit your local hardware store for replacements. If you strike out, Mugen offers a set of four caps (two small, two large) Item number: B0424

STEP 5: CLUTCH-BELL MAINTENANCE

Remove the clutch bell and wipe out the inside with a rag and motor spray. Use a Scotch-Brite pad or 400 grit sand paper to re-scuff the inside of the clutch bell to make a “grabby” surface for the clutch shoes.

STEP 6: INSPECT THE CLUTCH SHOES

Check for worn shoes. Blow the clutch off with compressed air. Clean out the bearings with motor spray, and re-oil with Trinity Royal oil. Use canned air or air compressor (20 psi) to spread the oil inside the bearing. This prevents the oil from being flung into the clutch shoes. If the shoes have burrs on the edge remove them with a file or X-Acto knife

13 Pro Race Secerts By Losi's Adam Drake

Pro racers rarely have engine problems, and it isn’t because they bolt on a new engine after every run. Factory racers meticulously maintain their engines between races to endure the hour long mains that they compete in.

I have noticed that at our first two races this season a lot of cars where breaking down before the finish of the race. This mainly occurs from lack of preventive maintenance. I read a magazine article written by Adam Drake titled Adam Drake’s luck 13. This is the 13 steps Adam takes after his car has hit the track. So I have re-typed the article to pass on to everyone, these are The Drakes words and I give him full credit.

I will be typing out 3 steps per day till we have reached 13. I hope you guys enjoy this series and find it useful.

STEP 1: BLOW OFF EXCESS DIRT

Before removing the engine from your Buggy or Truggy, use an air compressor to blow off any excess dirt and debris. Make sure to clear dust and grime away fro carburetor and fuel inlet.

STEP 2: BRUSH OFF ANY REMAINING DIRT

Chunks of dirt may still remain after you’ve used an air compressor. An old toothbrush or any type of small cleaning brush with stiff bristles will remove any left over dirt.

STEP 3: REMOVE PIPE AND HEADER

Use pliers or a spring hook, to remove the springs that secure your header and exhaust pipe. Once removed, inspect gaskets for tears, worn out sections and other imperfections that may cause an air leak. Last check the pipe for dings and damage. If it is dented, plug the ends and fill the pipe with water and then freeze it. The expanded water should pop the dent out. (That is the coolest trick I’ve ever heard)

RC Race n' Radio

There is and on-line radio talk show that has a show devoted just to RC. The host's name is Danny Southard. The show is on every Tuesday at 6pm (est). You can find it at Race Talk Live. If anyone has the capabilities to record this for me I would appreciate it. I am at work during that time.

Club Revolution RC' 2nd race 08.18-07

Dsc00571_4 We had alot of fun on Saturday. Despite the gusts of wind trying to blow our tents away, it was a beautiful day for playing with toy cars. The track was in tip top condition thanks to Basil and Ruben's work during the week. Also on Friday Rob and Gary got together and extended the pit area, and closed up some of the RC death traps that where around the track.

We ran three classes again a Monster Truck class, Truggy class, and an Open class. The results where, Gary dominated both the Monster Truck class and the Open class wielding his Team Losi Muggy. And Rob took the win in the Truggy class.

It was a great time this weekend and I want to thank all the participants.

It was asked that I request for more people to bring their Buggies. So get them out of storage, clean the after run oil out, tune up the carb and get them out on the track for the next race. The next race is scheduled for Sept 1. That will be our Labor Day weekend event. More info will be posted in the coming days.

Club Revolution RC's First Race

Our first race was successful. We had about 12 drivers and three classes. We ran a Monster Truck class, a Buggy class, and an Open class. John (Johhny Revo) won the Monster Truck class with his Traxxas Revo. Adam with his Ofna Ultra comp took a close win againt Rob in the Buggy class. And Micheal tore through the track "no hold bard" with his HPI Savage X taking first place in the open class. Congrat's to all the winners. Start fixing up your truck for the next race!
